Welcome to part one of what is a HUGE multi part series review of all the awesome comics I got on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! Some call it the best day ever. A day so amazing that I actually feel it should be illegal. For three years now I have been going to my local comic book store and I have been getting a huge stack of free comic books. I know that I am allowed to grab everything that I want on the table and take it, but it still feels like I should be paying for this printed mass of humor and action. I soon get over this and grab every comic they have and have comic fest that night. This is my tribute and review of free comic book day this year. Let's rock.

cover

The past couple years TOKYOPOP has been giving away a huge sampler of the mangas they put out. Most of which read from right to left, like in their native countries just to make those weird little dudes who think everything in Japan is better feel like they are Asian. They also release American mangas, which is kind of contradictory, that read left to right. So, in order to confuse my tiny little brain, they decided to make this sampler read right to left AND left to right. They also include directions on how to read the right to left stuff. I feel pretty stupid that I need to read directions to know how to read a comic book. It is kind of like having to take remedial bike riding classes, of course, maybe you should. You wouldn't want to pull a Kellen Winslow.

The book features thirteen different mangas and was a pretty good deal for free. The first comic is called Blade of Heaven and seems to be about some guy that stole the swords that bears the name of the title. It is witty and seemingly chocked full of action! There is a joke about mustaches in it and I think that enough is grounds for me liking it. Here is a picture from it.

The next part was from a manga called Peach Fuzz. Aside from the obvious incredibly perverse joke, that sure is a good title. From what I could gather this is about someone who was turned into a cute little ferret looking thing and just does a bunch of cute things. This isn't actually the plot, but I made it up and it seems a lot cooler than the real one. It's kind of in the same vein as Hamtaro. I love Hamtaro. Here is a picture of the cute thing being cure while it is eating cutely.

kekeke

Following Peach Fuzz was PHD: Phantasy Degree. This wasn't very cool sounding besides the fact that the main character was trying to get into the Demon School Hades. There is only one problem! SHE'S HUMAN! That's so silly. I didn't read this one very hard except for the parts with a dog-man. He seemed pretty fun. For example....

woof

The next couple comics Planet Blood, Soul to Seoul, and The Tarot Cafe were stupid and I rolled those pages up to use as toilet paper. I'm just joking, I didn't roll them up. After the suck fest that was those comics There was a warcraft comic. You know, like the video game! It was a pretty short section and didn't seem to feature any trolls, but there were angry dwarves. Oh I love angry short bearded men. Not in a gay way, well, maybe in a gay way. PICTURE!

mad

This ended the left to right side of the book. Being a person with limited intelligence I decided to just look at the pictures of this part and here are a couple pictures I found humorous or awesome or both or of a tiger man.

All in all I would have to say this was a pretty awesome thing to get for free. There was all kinds of cute, creepy, and silly things inside. It was worth it for the pictures alone really since there were over 100 pages. I like pictures.

adventures of paul
The Adventures of Paul

Next on the table was a much thinner and more approachable because it was green, like grass. Inside was a comic in black and white that seemed to be about the artist and writer named Michael, but this comic was called the Adventures of Paul! How confusing! There were some interesting things in the comic about Paul when he was growing up. For instance, he liked to piss in those tubes that they have at the bank. He was a big bad meany! I didn't like this comic so I'm done writing about it.

ronin hood
Ronin Hood of the Samurai

Ah ha! Samurai! I love Samurai, from Hanzo the Razor to Ogami Itto, they are all awesome. Meaning this comic had to awesome... or did it? The story basically follows the story of Robin Hood and Robin Hood is played by, sadly, a ninja! This book starts of with him and his ninja pals whooping up on some Samurai. This makes me a little bit sad, since Samurai are cooler than ninjas, theatrically at least.

That's all I've got for now. Look for more parts of this epic series soon, maybe even some from not me! How exciting is that?!
